bass streamer flies double hook

Why Bass Anglers Need Double Hook Streamers

Bass have a knack for striking short and slashing at flies, especially when feeding on baitfish. Traditional single-hook bass streamer flies often result in missed hooksets or fish throwing the fly mid-fight. The bass streamer flies double hook design solves this problem with a proven two-hook articulated setup: a size 1/0 front hook drives initial penetration, while the trailing size 1 hook stays engaged even when the bass rolls or jumps.

This 5-color assortment covers every bass fishing scenario. Whether you’re targeting largemouth in lily pads at dawn, smallmouth in rocky rivers at midday, or spotted bass in stained reservoirs during overcast conditions, you have the right color ready. Each fly measures approximately 70-80mm (2.75-3.15 inches) and weighs just 1.6 grams—light enough to cast on a 6-7 weight rod but substantial enough to trigger aggressive strikes.

Articulated Action That Triggers Bass

The tube-style connection between the front and rear sections creates unrestricted movement. When stripped through the water, the rear hook section kicks and darts independently from the weighted head, imitating a wounded shad or panfish trying to escape. Bass can’t resist that erratic swimming motion. The double hook configuration also means more hooking surface area—when a bass engulfs the fly, at least one hook finds purchase.

Unlike rigid single-hook patterns that swim in a straight line, these bass streamer flies double hook designs swim with side-to-side wiggle and tail flutter. The reflective synthetic fibers catch light from every angle, creating flash bursts that bass detect from 10+ feet away even in murky water. The 3D molded eyes add the final touch of realism—bass are sight feeders, and those bulging eyes trigger their predatory instinct.

5 Colors for Changing Conditions

Each pack includes carefully selected colors tested on bass waters across North America:

  • Red: Imitates injured shad or shiners. Best during dawn, dusk, or after rain when bass feed aggressively on disoriented baitfish.
  • Silver: High visibility in stained water. Use this when runoff clouds your lake or river.
  • Orange: Matches crawfish and sunfish. Deadly during spring spawning season when bass protect beds.
  • Purple: Low-light specialist. Fish this pattern at night, in deep water, or under heavy cloud cover.
  • Olive: Natural forage imitator. Works in clear water when bass are pressured and spooky.

Common Questions

Q: Will the double hooks tangle during casting?
A: The articulated tube connection keeps the hooks separated. In hundreds of casts, tangling is rare. If it happens, a quick finger straighten fixes it in seconds.

Q: What rod weight should I use?
A: These flies cast best on 6-weight to 8-weight rods. A 7-weight is ideal for most bass applications. Pair with floating or intermediate sink line depending on depth.

Q: Can I use these in saltwater for species like snook or redfish?
A: While primarily designed for freshwater bass, the hooks are corrosion-resistant and can handle occasional saltwater use. Rinse thoroughly after each saltwater session.

Q: How durable are the 3D eyes?
A: The eyes are molded epoxy resin, not stick-ons. They withstand dozens of strikes and won’t fall off after a few fish.

Okay these things are ridiculous. Threw one on a largemouth spot I’ve been fishing for years and got hit on literally the second cast. The double hook setup means way fewer missed strikes — that alone is worth it. The eyes on these look super realistic and the color variety in the pack covers all conditions.
