The Problem with Standard Midge Dry Flies
Fishing tiny flies is usually frustrating. Traditional Midge Dry Flies either sit too rigidly on top of the film—looking nothing like a natural adult—or they’re simply impossible to track on the water. We re-engineered the classic Midge Dry Fly to solve both issues. This pattern imitates a fully-emerged midge adult riding the surface, wings spent, body flush in the film—the exact profile trout key on during a midge hatch. The parachute hackle holds the fly in the correct flush-floating position, while the Hi-Vis post gives you a visual anchor without spooking fish. Simple design. Deadly result.
Visibility: Small Fly, Big Signal
The biggest challenge with a Size #20 Midge Dry Fly is losing track of it. Our solution is the “Hi-Vis Post.”
- Visual Anchor: We installed a dense, white poly-yarn post that stands tall above the water. You can spot it even in foam lines or glare.
- Stealth Profile: While you see the white post from above, the fish only sees the natural body profile from below. Visible to you, deadly to them.
Color Guide & Tactics
Don’t overcomplicate your winter box. These two colors cover 90% of hatch situations.
- Natural Brown: Your daily driver. Matches the standard olive/brown midges found in almost every river.
- Chartreuse (Yellow): The attractor. Use this on bright sunny days or when pale sulfur midges are hatching.
- Tactical Tip: Fish this on 6X or 7X tippet. It makes an excellent “sighter” fly when trailing a tiny nymph behind it.

1 review for Hi-Vis Parachute Midge Dry Fly #20
I have older eyes. Seeing a size 20 midge on the water used to be a nightmare. The post on these is bright enough that I can actually fish confidently again. Caught more fish this year because I could see my strikes. Sounds basic, but it’s a game changer.
