  • Heavy slotted tungsten bead. Sinks fast to reach the strike zone without split shot.
  • Glow-in-the-dark, UV reactive bead. Stays visible in low light, dawn, dusk, and murky water.
  • Barbless 60-degree jig hook. Rides point-up to dodge snags on the riverbed.
  • Fluorescent tag tail. A separate splash of color from the glow bead, for extra visibility.
  • Soft hackle collar. Adds a bit of movement that a stiff epoxy body doesn’t have.

Built for Deep Pools and Low Light

Euro nymphing usually comes down to two things: getting deep enough, and staying visible enough to track the drift. This pattern is built around both.

A heavy slotted tungsten bead gets the fly down through fast current fast, while the glow-in-the-dark, UV reactive bead finish gives you a visual edge during the “golden hour” at dusk, early dawn patrols, or in stained runoff water.

Why the Jig Hook

This fly is tied on a 60-degree barbless jig hook. The heavy tungsten bead naturally flips the fly so the hook point rides up. That lets you tick along the riverbed without constantly snagging on rocks, keeping the fly in the water instead of stuck on the bottom.

Two Visibility Features, Not One

The bead and the tag tail do two different jobs. The bead is glow-in-the-dark and UV reactive, charged by ambient light or a UV torch, giving off a soft glow in dark water. The fluorescent tag tail is a separate splash of color, visible in daylight the same way any hot spot or bright tag would be. Together they give you visibility across more lighting conditions than either feature alone.

Match the Hatch and Tactics

  • Seasonality: Fishes well year-round, with extra value in winter and spring runoff when water runs off-color.
  • Target Species: Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Grayling, Panfish.
  • Presentation: Use as the point fly in a Euro or Czech nymphing rig to anchor the drift.

For a two-fly setup, trail a lighter fly like a Zebra Midge or Pheasant Tail Nymph above it on 5X or 6X Fluorocarbon Tippet.

Common Questions

How do I charge the glow bead? Expose it to a UV flashlight, headlamp, or direct sunlight before you start fishing. The glow fades gradually rather than cutting off at a fixed point, so re-charging it occasionally during low-light fishing keeps it at its brightest.

Are these hooks strong enough for big fish? Yes. The wire is high-carbon, chemically sharpened steel, and the jig shape holds fish securely even without a barb.

Should I get Orange or Chartreuse? It varies by river. Chartreuse tends to work well in colder, clearer water, while Orange holds up better in stained water. The 12-Piece Assortment covers both so you’re not stuck guessing streamside.

What’s a good pairing for this as a point fly? A smaller nymph like a Tungsten Frenchie Jig Nymph or a Rubber Leg Pheasant Tail Jig above it covers a second profile in the same drift.

Good euro nymph, solid tungsten bead, the tag color holds up after multiple sessions. My only gripe is I want more tag color options — orange and red are great but a chartreuse option would be killer on certain waters. What’s available works though.

Dude. These things FISH. I was euro nymphing a run I know well and wasn’t touching fish with my usual patterns. Switched to the glow tag version and immediately got into fish. Sometimes the fish just want that little hot spot and this delivers it perfectly.
