Perdigon Nymph

The Fastest Way to the Bottom: Perdigon Nymph

In Euro Nymphing, depth is everything. If you aren’t ticking the bottom, you aren’t catching fish. The Perdigon Nymph was designed by the Spanish competition team to solve one problem: getting a small fly deep, fast. By eliminating all fur and feathers and coating the body in sleek UV resin, this fly sinks like a stone, bypassing the fast surface current to reach the feeding zone instantly.

Micro Size #20: Why Go Small?

As shown in the comparison photos (“Deadly for Selective Trout”), midges and baetis nymphs are often tiny. When trout are locked onto these micro-insects, a size #14 or #16 will get ignored. Our Size #20 Perdigon Nymph matches the hatch perfectly. It is the ultimate weapon for:

  • Winter Fishing: When fish metabolism is low and they won’t move far for food.
  • Low & Clear Water: When fish are spooky and scrutinize every drift.
  • Tailwaters: Where fish see thousands of flies a season and demand perfection.

Two Tactical Colors

We offer the two most essential variations:

  • Olive (Stealth): A natural imitation of Baetis/Blue Winged Olive nymphs. Use this in clear water or for highly educated fish.
  • Orange (Trigger): Functions as an attractor or “Hot Spot.” Use this in off-colored water or as the anchor fly to grab the fish’s attention.

As shown in the comparison photos (“Deadly for Selective Trout”), midges and baetis nymphs are often tiny. When fish are locked onto these micro-insects, larger flies get ignored. Target Species Profile

This micro-nymph is engineered to trigger strikes from specific species that feed near the riverbed:

  • Brown Trout: Often holding in the deepest, darkest pools, Browns are notorious for ignoring surface flies. This jig drops right in front of their nose.
  • Rainbow Trout: Especially in fast riffles, Rainbows react aggressively to the flash of our Orange Hot Spot variation.
  • Grayling: Known for their small mouths and preference for bottom-feeding, Grayling find the #20 size irresistible.
  • Brook Trout: In high alpine streams, this durable fly can withstand aggressive strikes from eager Brookies all day long.

The finish on these is really impressive — smooth, hard, and shiny. That’s what makes a perdigon work and these get it right. I use these when I need to cover a lot of water fast because they swing into position quickly and efficiently.

Size 20 perdigon is not easy to tie well. I know because I’ve tried. The epoxy finish on these is smooth all the way down to the bend — no lumps, no thin spots. That matters because any imperfection in the finish changes how the fly sinks and moves. On picky fish in clear water, this level of detail is the difference between getting takes and getting refusals.
