Stop Guessing. Start Catching.
The most effective technique for mountain streams is the “Dry-Dropper,” but rigging it can be frustrating. If your dry fly is too small, it sinks. If your nymph is too light, it doesn’t get down. The Rivfly Select Series: Hybrid Stream Master is a curated collection of dry dropper flies engineered to work together perfectly right out of the box.
The “Bus Driver & The Passenger” System
We designed this kit to solve the physics of the two-fly rig using a specific high-low combination:
1. The Surface Indicator: Elk Hair Caddis (#12)
Known as “The Bus Driver,” this #12 dry fly is tied with premium hollow deer hair. It provides maximum buoyancy to float high while carrying the “passenger” below. It acts as a sensitive strike indicator that fish actually eat.
2. The Sub-Surface Anchor: Wire Body Kebari (#14)
“The Passenger” is a Tenkara-style wet fly with a heavy copper wire abdomen. It is designed to sink fast, cutting through surface tension instantly. The reverse hackle pulses in the water, triggering strikes from fish that refuse the dry fly.
Why These Are the Best Dry Dropper Flies
Most anglers struggle to match the hatch. This kit focuses on “Attraction” and “Physics” instead:
- Perfect Balance: The #12 Dry easily holds up the #14 Wet. No sinking indicators.
- Double Zone Coverage: You are fishing the surface film and the feeding lane simultaneously.
- Hybrid Versatility: While these are excellent Tenkara flies, they are equally deadly on a 3wt or 4wt Western fly rod.
Common Questions (FAQ)
How do I rig these dry dropper flies?
Tie the Elk Hair Caddis to your leader. Then, tie a 8-12 inch section of tippet to the *bend* of the Caddis hook. Tie the Wire Kebari to the end of that tippet.
Do I need split shot weights?
No. The Wire Body Kebari is weighted nicely. Adding split shot often tangles the rig and sinks the dry fly.

Dry dropper is my go-to setup for 80% of my fishing on the North Platte. The reason is simple — you're covering the water column top to bottom without switching rigs. But it only works if both flies are doing their jobs. The dries in this kit are buoyant enough to actually support a nymph without constantly drowning, and the droppers are weighted right to hang at the right depth without pulling everything under. That balance is harder to achieve than it sounds and this kit nails it.

You know those days where you can't tell if fish are rising to something on the surface or feeding sub-surface? This kit is built for exactly that situation. Had one of those days on the Deschutes last fall — fish were moving but I couldn't get them on a pure dry or a straight nymph rig. Switched to dry dropper using patterns from this kit and immediately started connecting. The parachute patterns visible from far away which helps with strike detection. Really well thought-out selection.
