Slotted Tungsten Beads

Roll one between your fingers. It’s heavier than you expect—not the hollow feel of aluminum, but dense, cold tungsten. That weight is what gets your nymph down into the strike zone while the current is still pulling your indicator upstream. This is the material Euro nymph competitors reach for when they need depth, fast.

The Problem with Brass and Lead

Brass beads look good, but they’re light. In fast water, your fly drifts too high, skating over feeding trout instead of dropping into their window. Lead? Banned in many waters, and tungsten is denser anyway.

Tungsten is nearly twice as dense as lead and significantly heavier than brass. Same bead size, faster sink rate. That’s physics.

Why the Slot Matters

Standard round-hole beads only fit straight-shank hooks. If you tie on jig hooks (especially for competition-style Euro nymphs), you need the slot to slide the bead past the 90-degree bend.

Our slotted design works with both standard hooks and jig hooks. No filing, no forcing. Thread the bead onto the hook shank, slide it to the eye, lock it with thread wraps or UV resin. Done.

Size & Hook Pairing

  • 2.8mm: Hooks #16-18. Best for small mayfly nymphs, midge larvae, and micro patterns.
  • 3.3mm: Hooks #12-16. The workhorse size for Pheasant Tails, Hare’s Ears, and caddis larvae.
  • 3.8mm: Hooks #8-10. For stoneflies, large nymphs, and jig streamers that need to punch through fast current.

Finish Options

Gold: Classic flash for attractor patterns. Mimics brass but sinks faster. Use in off-color water or low-light conditions.

Silver: Neutral shine for natural nymphs. Pairs well with gray, brown, and olive dubbing. The go-to for clear water.

Black Nickel: Low-profile finish for pressured fish. Reduces glare in gin-clear tailwaters. Still heavy, just stealthier.

Chartreuse: High-visibility option for egg patterns, scuds, and attractors. Adds a bright trigger point in stained water.

Why 50-Count Packs?

Most brands sell 100-count bags. That’s fine if you tie commercially, but weekend tiers don’t need 100 gold 3.3mm beads collecting dust. Our 50-count packs give you enough to tie a season’s worth of flies without the waste. Want more? Grab our 4-color bundle and get 200 beads (50 of each finish) at a discount.

Pro Tip

When using slotted beads on jig hooks, orient the slot perpendicular to the hook bend. This keeps the bead from rotating during the drift and maintains the inverted hook-point-up position that prevents snags. For extra security, add a tiny drop of UV resin or super glue at the slot before sliding the bead—it’ll lock in place without adding bulk.

The slots on these are actually cut clean. I’ve bought slotted beads before where the slot was barely there — not the case here. Sits perfectly on a jig hook.
