Why This Squirmy Wormy Fly Works in Low Light
This squirmy wormy fly uses a UV-reactive bead that reflects light underwater—even in stained or deep water. Combined with an ultra-soft silicone tail that wiggles on its own, it triggers strikes when traditional nymphs go unnoticed.
Best for dawn/dusk fishing, post-rain runoff, or deep pools where visibility drops. The jig hook design keeps the point riding upward, reducing snags on rocky bottoms.
How to Fish It
Dead Drift: Cast upstream and let it tumble naturally along the bottom.
Lift-Drop: Raise your rod tip 6 inches, then drop—the bead flashes as the fly falls.
Swing: Let it swing across current while the tail pulsates.
Common Questions
How is this different from a standard squirmy wormy fly?
Traditional squirmy patterns use a plain tungsten bead. This version adds a UV-fluorescent bead that glows in low-light conditions—giving you 30-45 extra minutes of productive fishing at dawn/dusk.
Does the bead need charging?
Hold it in sunlight for 30 seconds before fishing. For night sessions, use a UV keychain light (10-second recharge).
Will the silicone tail tear?
It’s durable for 15+ fish. Minor nicks don’t affect performance—trim frayed ends with scissors to restore action.
Can I use this in clear water?
Yes. In bright conditions, the glow is subtle. The real advantage kicks in when light levels drop.

1 review for Squirmy Wormy Fly Nymph
Zero shame. This thing catches fish. After high water events when the river is dropping and slightly off color, a squirmy wormy is THE pattern. These are cut to the right length and the silicone material has good natural movement. I’ve out-fished guys using “proper” nymphs multiple times with this.
