The “Must-Have” Euro Nymph Pattern
If you check the fly box of any competitive angler, you will find rows of the Frenchie Jig Nymph. Why? Because it simplifies the complex diet of a trout into one deadly profile. By removing the legs of a standard Pheasant Tail and adding a heavy tungsten bead on a jig hook, this fly sinks faster and hooks more fish than almost any other nymph in existence.
Why the “Hot Tag” Version?
Standard Frenchies are great, but our Hot Tag Series adds a lethal trigger.
- The Pink Tag: A proven agitator for Rainbow Trout and Grayling, especially in colder water or winter conditions.
- The Chartreuse (Green) Tag: Excellence for Caddis-rich waters or when fish are keyed in on brighter green insects.
This mixed pack ensures you have the right color to crack the code on any given day.
Engineering: Less Snags, Better Hook Sets
Fishing deep usually means losing flies. We built this on a 60-degree Jig Hook.
The Physics: The heavy tungsten bead forces the fly to flip upside down, so the hook point rides up. This allows the fly to bounce along the riverbed—where the biggest trout live—without constantly snagging on rocks. When a fish eats, the hook point drives securely into the hard upper lip.
Common Questions (FAQ)
Is this only for Euro Nymphing?
No! While it’s designed for tight-lining, it works incredibly well under a strike indicator or as a heavy point fly in a Dry-Dropper rig.
Why use Tungsten instead of Brass?
Tungsten is 1.7x denser than lead. A small tungsten bead sinks much faster than a large brass one, allowing you to use a smaller, more realistic profile while still reaching the bottom.
What does it imitate?
It’s a “General Attractor.” It looks like everything and nothing at the same time—Mayfly nymphs, small Stones, or Caddis larva. It relies on the trigger points (Hot Spots) to induce a reaction strike.

1 review for Tungsten Frenchie Jig Nymph (Hot Tag Series)
The Frenchie is already one of my favorite euro nymphs, but the hot tag version just takes it up a notch. That little flash of color on the bend — fish key in on it hard. I’ve done back-to-back drifts with a regular PT and a Frenchie in the same run and the Frenchie wins almost every time. The tungsten bead on these is properly heavy so you actually feel the fly ticking the bottom. That’s what euro nymphing is all about.
