Wet Flies

Classic Wet Flies tied with soft, absorbent materials to pulse subsurface and trigger strikes on the swing.

Mastering the Swing: Traditional Wet Flies

Before dry flies dominated the sport, Wet Flies were the standard, and they remain lethally effective for mimicking emerging insects just below the surface film. The effectiveness of Rivfly Wet Flies lies in material selection. Unlike the stiff barbs used in dry flies, we utilize soft Partridge, Starling, and Hen hackles. These fibers are engineered to collapse against the body in fast current and open up in softer water, creating a lifelike “heartbeat” or pulse that hard-bodied lures cannot replicate.

The Subsurface Arsenal:

  • Soft Hackles: The ultimate imitators of emerging caddis and mayflies. Our Partridge and Orange and Soft Hackle Hares Ear are essentials for swinging through riffles.
  • Winged Wets: Featuring quill or flank feather wings, patterns like the March Brown and Leadwing Coachman mimic drowned spinners or diving caddis.
  • Emergers: Specific Wet Flies designed to hang vertically in the film, targeting trout that are feeding on insects struggling to break through the surface tension.

Tied on wet-fly specific hooks (heavier than dry fly wire, lighter than nymphs), these patterns cut through the surface instantly to reach the feeding zone.
