What it imitates:
The Rivfly Elk Hair Caddis Dry Fly is designed to mimic the adult Caddisfly (Sedge) or small Stonefly that has just hatched and is resting on the water's surface.
Why it works this season: Caddisflies hatch from Spring through late Fall. This fly is particularly effective during evening hatches when fish are looking up. Its "tent-wing" profile is instantly recognized by hungry trout.
Where to use it:
- Fast Water: Its high buoyancy makes it the best choice for broken, fast-moving pocket water where other flies might sink.
- Skating: You can even twitch it (skate it) across the surface to trigger aggressive strikes from fish that think the bug is about to fly away.
Pro Rigging Tip (Dry-Dropper):
This fly is so buoyant it makes an excellent "indicator fly." Tie a piece of tippet to the bend of this hook and attach a small nymph (like our Bead Head Pheasant Tail) 1-2 feet below. You get two chances to catch fish!
