Unlock the Code for Pressured Fish.

When trout ignore everything else, they can't resist the slow, helpless flutter of an emerging chironomid. Our Epoxy Chironomid Pupa is engineered to be the most realistic imitation you can tie on.

What it imitates:

This fly is a perfect replica of a midge pupa (a "Buzzer" in the UK) ascending to the surface to hatch. The segmented body, wire ribbing, and most importantly, the shiny epoxy back, create the illusion of a living insect with trapped air bubbles under its skin—an easy, protein-packed meal trout are genetically programmed to intercept.

Why it works this season:

During autumn and winter, fish metabolism slows down. They prefer easy, slow-moving targets over fast-chased meals. The gentle, slow sink rate of this non-beadhead fly hangs in the strike zone longer, presenting a can't-miss opportunity for lethargic yet opportunistic trout.

When to use it:

This is your go-to fly on lakes, ponds, and slow-moving sections of rivers. It's especially deadly when you see fish feeding just beneath the surface or during a "trout chop" when wind creates ripples on the water. Use it as your primary weapon in stillwater conditions.

How to rig it:

The Indicator Rig: Hang one or two of these pupae at different depths under a strike indicator.

The "Dry-Dropper" Rig: Use our Parachute Adams as your dry fly on the surface, and tie this pupa 18-36 inches off the hook bend as your dropper.

The Euro Nymph Rig: For ultimate sensitivity, use our Tungsten Nymph as the heavy point fly to get down deep, and rig this Epoxy Chironomid Pupa 20 inches above it on a dropper tag. Its neutral buoyancy will allow it to dance and drift naturally in the current.
